Coffee Bomb

When you really fancy a coffee and you're not quite in the mood for a coffee replacement but don't want too much caffeine to hit your system, a coffee bomb is a great option.  A coffee bomb is inspired by the popular bulletproof coffee which is made using a specific brand of coffee blended with a spoon of grass-fed butter and some MCT oil (processed coconut oil)

This works really well with decaf coffee, organic coconut oil and organic grass-fed butter or goats butter.  It also works well making a vegan option just adding coconut oil if you don't want to add butter.  Both Lavazza Blue and organic Grumpy Mule brands are made using a water extraction process so they contain less chemicals than other decaf options.  The process is pretty simple - make your coffee, blend with coconut oil, butter and sweetener.  The result is a latte-style coffee.

Decaffeinated coffee still contains 8-14 mg caffeine per cup in comparison to 100-200mg per cup of regular coffee (depending on brand and strength).  Adding coconut oil to decaf coffee slows the release of caffeine and prevents us feeling a huge peak and drop in energy. It also avoids some of the other side affects experienced with coffee (increased heart rate etc)

How to make a coffee bomb (for 1)

  • Brew your decaf coffee
  • Pour coffee into a blender
  • Add 2 tsps coconut oil
  • Add 1 tsp of organic butter (goat or grass fed dairy) - optional
  • Add 2-3 drops of Stevia to sweeten if you like it sweet
  • Blend and serve

If however, you'd prefer a completely caffeine-free coffee with no dairy at all and a few superfoods thrown in then you may prefer this option...

Hybrid Herbs - cordyceps extract

Cordyceps is an amazing mushroom.  It's an adaptogen so it helps boost the immune system and is often used to naturally increase energy, enhance stamina, and reduce fatigue without depleting the adrenals. It comes in powder form and can be added to a variety of recipes.

Maca is another adaptogen used for boosting our immune system and lifting fatigue (as well as helping balance our hormones)

For the coffee flavour, Medicine Flower make a fantastic food grade extract.  It is pricey but a little goes a long way.

  • 3-4 tsp coconut oil
